Civil Service Strollers to support LIFT with Christmas food bank collection

Civil Service Strollers are delighted to announce they will be supporting the Low Income Families Together (LIFT) with our Christmas ‘Donate at the Gate’ this year.

LIFT is an organisation that has been working in north Edinburgh for two years and has gone from strength to strength supporting local families.

As our club has the community at its heart we are delighted to be doing our bit for local families.

LIFT Staff members Danielle Leadbetter, Gemma Howell and Pauline Nicil-Bowie who will receive all food bank donations from this years Civil Service Strollers ‘Donate at the Gate’.

On Saturday 7th December 2019 every person who attends our game with a donation to the food bank collection will get FREE entry to watch us play Cumbernauld Colts.

Club President, Russell Pryde, said “This will be the second time the Strollers have had a collection for a local food bank.

“The work that LIFT are doing in our community is outstanding and we are delighted that we can play our part in helping local people in our area.”

LIFT is a support and advocacy project offering support to families who are experiencing homelessness, living in temporary accommodation or bed and breakfasts.

They support families facing in work poverty, isolation and families who have been affected by the benefit cap or receiving universal credits.

LIFT’s Managing Director, Pauline Nicole Bowie, said “At LIFT we know from previous years how difficult it is for some families at Christmas.

“Some have to choose from eating, buying gifts for their kids or paying bills.

“Last year we planned to hand out 20 food hampers to local families in need within the north Edinburgh area, however, due to high number of homeless families that were placed in temporary accommodation out with the area we had to increase that to 36.

“Some of our families were placed in temporary accommodation and B&B’s all across the city.

“This year the number of families we support who have become homeless has again increased and a lot of them who are experiencing poverty.

“On the run up to Christmas we are hoping to provide 50 families with food hampers.

“We are delighted that the Strollers have agreed to do this collection for us. It really will help lots of local families who need it.”
