A fire has destroyed the roof of a block of flats in Ferry Gait with a baby among five people rescued from the inferno.
Emergency services were called to the blaze on Ferry Gait Place just after 10am today.
Part of the roof of the four-storey block was completely destroyed by the blaze.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent six appliances and a high-reach vehicle to the scene.
Firefighters evacuated four adults and one child, understood to be a baby, from one property, and they were handed over to the Scottish Ambulance Service for treatment.
Two ambulances, two special operations response teams (SORT), a paramedic response car and a critical care paramedic were dispatched to the scene.
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 10.07am to attend a building fire at Ferry Gait, Edinburgh.
“Two ambulances, two special operations response teams, a paramedic response car and a critical care paramedic were dispatched. Five patients were assessed and discharged at the scene.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 10.10am on Thursday, 10 September, 2026, police received a report of a building fire on Ferry Gait, Edinburgh.
“Emergency services attended and five people were checked at the scene.
“Officers continue to assist partners dealing with the incident and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
