Civil Service Strollers moved to fifth place in the GeoSonic Lowland League after a convincing six-nil win over Gretna 2008 on Saturday.

Gary Jardine’s men were keen on returning to winning ways after being beat last week by Jeanfield Swifts.

Both sides had spells of play in the first half and just as it looked like the sides would go in level at the interval Steven Froude fired Civil ahead after Craig Newall went on a run up the wing before crossing to Froude who directed the ball into the net.

This spurred Civil on and Froude almost bagged his second of the day but Jim Atkinson in the Gretna goals pulled off a terrific save to push the ball away for a corner.

From the resulting corner David Churchill picked up the loose ball but Atkinson was again equal to it and pushed the ball over the bar.

Civil came out after the interval firing on all cylinders and Froude netted his second of the match when he got on the end of a corner, his header left the keeper rooted and the ball went in of the post.

With the pressure Strollers were applying it was only a matter of time before they got their third and came from Cammy Muirhead.

Froude broke away from the Gretna defence and rounded the keeper before crossing to Muirhead at the back door who rolled the ball into the net.

Muirhead bagged his brace when he picked up on a slack clearance from the keeper.

The big striker showed great composure as he broke away before firing beyond Atkinson.

Jordan Hopkinson made it five for Strollers with minutes to go after he was played in by Froude and his shot found the bottom corner of the net.

In injury time an own goal meant it finished Gretna 0-6 Strollers.
