Edinburgh College has announced that classes will be cancelled on Wednesday January 16 because of a strike by lecturers.

It is the first in a series of strikes planned by the EIS union as part of a national pay dispute.

A post on the college website stated “All classes on the day are cancelled, however the College will be open for students to access all facilities and learning resources for self-directed study.

“You do not have to attend College on this day. Our virtual learning environment, Moodle, will be available throughout strike action so you can keep up to date with your studies.

“Your lecturers will let you know in advance of anything important you should be aware of and any available materials. “Your student support payments will not be affected by the strike action.”

The Waterfront Nursery at Granton and The Club at Milton Road will also be open.

The EIS has also given notice of three further days of strike action that may take place — Tuesday 5 February, Wednesday 6 March and Thursday 21 March 2019.
