Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery at Craigleith Retail Park

Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault with intent to rob which occurred in Craigleith Retail Park last night.

Around 7pm a 66-year-old man was in his car when he was approached by a man who opened his car door and demanded money.

The man ran away from the retail park and no money was stolen. The suspect is described as a white man with a local accent, approx. 5ft 8in tall, of slim build with short hair and he was wearing dark clothing.

Detective Sergeant Rory Legge, of Corstorphine CID, said: “This was a frightening experience for the victim who luckily did not sustain any injuries.

“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident who may have witnessed what happened, or any motorists who were in the area with dash cam footage, to please come forward.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101, quoting incident number 3143 of 24 January. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
