Spartans kept their chances of winning the Lowland League alive with a convincing 5-0 win over Cumbernauld Colts on Friday night.

The victory moved the Ainslie Park team into second spot in the table.

Local lad, Blair Atkinson, bagged a brace and tormented the Colts defence with his trickery and pace.

Alan Brown put the home side ahead when his shot took a wicked deflection and found the back of the net.

Just six minutes into the half, Blair Atkinson sent a delightfully curled attempt beyond the keeper and into the bottom corner.

Jamie Dishington was next to score when he was first to a react to a Craig Stevenson’s free-kick that rattled the bar. Dishington was on hand to turn the rebound into the net with the head from close range.

Atkinson got his second of the night after some good play from Guillermo Lamarca, he held the ball up inside the box before slotting in Atkisnon to unleash an unstoppable drive.

In the dying stages Guillermo Lamarca scored to make it 5-0.

On Saturday league leaders, East Kilbride, were in North Edinburgh to face Civil Service Strollers at Christie Gillies Park.

The visitors got off to a superb start with two goals in the opening minutes.

Craig Malcolm found the net with a perfectly placed free-kick from the edge of the box that found the top corner.

One minute later Kilby found the net for a second time after Ross McNeil was played in before slotting the ball into the net.

Just before the interval Sean Winter sealed the victory after firing the ball beyond Stuart Burnside in the Civil goal.
