Pictures of L’Hoest’s monkey baby born at Edinburgh Zoo

An adorable one-month old L’Hoest’s monkey baby has been caught on camera for the first time at Edinburgh Zoo.

Staff at the wildlife conservation charity say the youngster will be named in the coming weeks, once they are able to determine its sex.

Jennifer Appleyard, animal keeper at Edinburgh Zoo, said, “Our baby L’Hoest’s monkey was born in May and has been clinging to mum Sheli so we’re not sure yet whether we have a new little boy or girl.

“Once we know, hopefully in the coming weeks, we’ll name the youngster.

“Sheli is a first-time mum and has been very protective of her newborn, but she has taken to motherhood like a duck to water and seems to love it.

“We’re all really excited about our new addition and we’re so glad to be able to welcome visitors back to meet our new arrival too.”

While the zoo reopened on Monday 29 June, it is still an incredibly difficult time for the charity.

Jennifer added, “We would like to thank everyone for their amazing support so far and for helping us reopen.

“People can help care for our animals and protect threatened species in Scotland and around the world by donating on our website.”
